Reid is a 7 year old boy from St. Catharines, Ontario
who was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the summer of 2013. He enjoys playing outside, playing video games, and learning about how things work. He experiences a variety of issues including Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Sensory Integration Disorder, challenged social skills, and difficulties with transitions and changes. Reid is so excited to have received program approval from Autism Dog Services to help assist him with his daily needs. Outings can be difficult with Reid. Long lines, crowds, waiting, and transitions are often over stimulating and anxiety producing. With a service dog, we hope that being in public places such as stores, parks, malls, schools, restaurants, planes etc. will provide Reid with both independence and reassurance. This will assist him to integrate successfully with others. We hope it will improve Reid’s socialization skills and optimize his integration with his peers and the public. We believe that a service dog will improve Reid’s life by giving him greater self-confidence, companionship, encourage him to become more independent with daily living skills such as regularly sleeping in his own bed and learning about responsibility by caring for the dog.
